Rest assured that industrial Placements at the John Lewis Partnership have been carefully designed to give you more involvement, more opportunities to show what you’re capable of, and more responsibility. After successfully completing the scheme and finishing university we hope our Placement students will rejoin the business through one of our graduate schemes or an advertised role.

Placements are an invaluable way of getting to know a company. And, of course, for a company to get to know you. We run year-long industrial Placements and in 2017 we recruited for the following schemes within Waitrose Head Office based in Bracknell:
Agriculture, Business Development, Buying, Commercial Operations, Customer Loyalty Marketing, Marketing Insight, Marketing Store Development, Product Development and Social Media

All Placements give you a unique overview of how our businesses are structured and how they operate, not to mention a flavour of the exciting future career you could have with us. Students applying for a placement need to have interest and/or career aspiration in the area they apply for.
You will be given the chance to get hands-on experience, contribute to projects and lead meetings. The schemes cover a range of functions and specialisms and give a broad understanding of the culture that exists within the John Lewis Partnership. The more you put into your placement the more responsibility you will be given. Every placement student has individual responsibilities and accountabilities.
Throughout the scheme we aim to give you the opportunity to meet with Partners from across the business and to help you build a strong understanding of how our departments work together, giving you the immediate opportunity to build a professional network.
These placements are perfect for driven, high achievers with a real interest in pursuing a career with a pioneering fresh food retailer. In addition to on-the-job training, it includes a number of hugely beneficial training days, covering a range of soft skills including assertiveness and presentation skills.

Please note – for Industrial Placements, students can only apply during the second year of their degree to undertake a placement within the penultimate year of their degree.
Salary and Benefits
The salary for all Placements is £17,500. You’ll also receive benefits such as the Partnership annual bonus as a percentage of your salary (the 2016/17 bonus was 6%), non-contributory pension scheme, a discount card for John Lewis and Waitrose, ticket subsidies and much more.
