About the role

This is a fantastic and exciting time of transformation for John Lewis Financial Services and we are now recruiting for a Senior Analytics Manager to join our newly created Insurance Pricing Team. In this role, you’ll work hand in hand with a range of commercial stakeholders, directly contributing to the success of our Insurance Products proposition.

This role is a unique opportunity to shape and build the Pricing Analytics area of our Insurance Pricing team, where you will have a pivotal role in defining and then implementing our Analytics strategy. You’ll have the opportunity to deliver a wide breadth of analytics, from insightful descriptive analytics (and associated visualisations) to the building of predictive analytical models that add significant value for our customers and our co-owned business.

We’re looking for experts in delivering actionable insights based on sound data analysis; integrating multiple data sources, to improve customer experience, profitability and improve efficiency. You will be responsible for the creation of critical management information reporting that enables us to understand the performance of our retail pricing, the effectiveness of our Insurer panels and the performance of our PCW strategy.

You’ll also use your strong Data Science techniques to support the Insurance Pricing team, actively helping to improve and advance the use of data within our pricing strategies for Home and Motor Insurance.

Key responsibilities

  •  Accountability for the design, development and maintenance of Business Intelligence / Management Information.

  • Ownership of a suite of management information dashboards with engaging data visualisations to and guide and support the pricing team in analysis.

  • Responsible for the provision of analysis and insight from data.

  • Responsible for the development of predictive models/Machine Learning

  • Accountable for the maintenance of the change control process for BI/MI development.

  • Responsible for the maintenance of the development workstack and prioritisation of requests.

  • Accountable for following Best Practice Policies and Procedures.

  • Develop and maintain monitoring and real time alerts.

  • Accountable for ensuring all data usage is in compliance with relevant regulations

  • Gain approval for data usage through [Data Ethics Committee].

  • Produce regulatory reporting.

  • Invest in your personal and professional development, acting as a role model for all Partners.

  • Leverage insight and internal and external networks to keep abreast of key customer requirements, market conditions and trends, including technological advancements. 

  • Support the delivery of projects as assigned by the Insurance Pricing Lead. 

  • Responsible for compliance with John Lewis policies & procedures within the legal and regulatory framework 

Essential skills/experience you’ll need 

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related highly numerate subject, or extensive analytically-based experience

  • Experience with analytics platforms such as PowerBI, Tableau, Qliksense etc, and working in R, Python or other programming or statistical languages

  • Technical skill, knowledge and experience in the use of Big Data, data visualisation, data manipulation and enterprise reporting techniques and tools 

  • Experience of synthesising complex and ambiguous information in order to drive actionable insight brought to life through communication and visualisation 

  • Experience of leading a team of Business Intelligence / Management Information developers.

  • Experience of general insurance data and reporting requirements.

  • Good business judgement; an ability to solve complex issues with pragmatic solutions.
     

Desirable skills/experience you may have

  • Experience with CDL strata, kingfisher, hummingbird, Goldfinch and RTP.

  • Ideally experience with Tableau.
