Continuing to serve respectfully.
Whilst Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a relatively modern term, it’s nothing new to the John Lewis Partnership. The reality is it’s how we’ve always carried out our business. Our company was built on the premise that our long-term future is best served by respecting the interests of all our stakeholders: Partners, customers, suppliers and the wider community. So that’s what we do. What does CSR mean to us?
We focus on building long-term relationships with our farmers and suppliers so that we treat people fairly and champion British where possible. We provide choice so that our customers can live well through our produce and feel happy that we’re treading lightly – reducing packaging, waste, CO2 emissions and responsibly sourcing our food.
We do this by being a ‘force for good’ with our Partners devoting their time to community initiatives and building community relationships; by volunteering, fundraising and donating to charity; by continuing with our Golden Jubilee Trust scheme which supports Partners volunteering for up to six months with a charity; by engaging with communities when new stores are built to ensure integration and by offering sustainable employment opportunities. We do this by engaging our customers, Partners and suppliers to make a difference and lasting change.
And we get our customers involved too with Community Matters – our scheme that uses tokens to enable customers to decide how much of a monthly or quarterly total is given to three charities or community groups, nominated by customers and selected by Partners.
We’re happy to admit there are too many good deeds to mention here, but please take a closer look here for more CSR information.
