Our customers want what they want, when and where they want it. And it’s our job to meet their expectations – whether that’s fresh lobster in Leicester, or Somerset Brie in Edinburgh. It’s what our distribution operation is all about. It’s a large and complicated task, only possible through the dedication and hard work of our distribution teams. And it’s where our Drivers come into their own.
Getting our goods from our warehouses to our stores and customers is without doubt one of the most important parts of our business. And we have a variety of delivery vehicles driving up and down the country making sure it happens. But as much as it’s about getting our goods from A to B, our fleet is also a very visible part of our brand. When it comes to deliveries our Drivers are the face of Waitrose, so they act as brand ambassadors. Not only through their respectful driving skills, but also in the superb customer service they provide.
Our Central Transport division is based at Bracknell and owns over 2,100 commercial vehicles. We also have vehicle workshops on-site at Bracknell, Aylesford and Leyland. So, as you can imagine, we recruit to a wide range of driving roles to keep it all running smoothly.
Our Drivers represent Waitrose out on the roads. As well as the specific skills needed for each role, this means that our Drivers take full ownership and accountability to get the job done and to do so in the most efficient and considerate way possible.
Below is an outline of the kind of roles you can expect to find.
Branch Delivery Drivers: You’ll need an LGV1 licence to drive our highly recognisable lorries, delivering goods from our various distribution centres to our stores all over the UK.
Customer Delivery Drivers: Waitrose.com is getting bigger. We now deliver everything from the weekly shop, to an ornamental bench for the garden, to a bucket load of bubbles for a ruby wedding anniversary. More choice for our customers means more opportunity for you, with an equally broad range of skills and licences required. This all needs to be topped off by superb customer service skills.
